The Ideal Home Show 2018, Glasgow

The Ideal Home Show in Glasgow has now passed and was a big success!

It was my first Ideal Home Show, but not the first time I’ve had a fair stand at the SECC – always a great venue.

Over the 4 days, I displayed my large oversized artworks and some smaller pieces.

I set up a painting station too on the stall where I happily splashed away on the canvas , much to the amusement of a lot of children.  I asked them to help me with ideas for the paintings.

Always learning and growing and working out the best ways of doing things; What did I learn from this event?   I don’t think I will continue the larger artworks to the extent I have as they don’t sell as easily as my smaller pieces.  Also, I will need a bigger car!

I love painting the small box paintings – I believe in making affordable art and they’re so handy for transporting and make fabulous little gifts to give.

I also have a new -found love of my naïve art, whimsical art style.  I wasn’t too sure how this would go down, but had very good feedback. I love creating little characters in Scottish inspired scenes.

Its all learning and reshaping…

Watch my website this month as I start my 100 painting challenge!

A new creation

“Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new creation. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”- 2 Corinthians 5:17 🦋

I keep thinking of butterflies this week. Aren’t they beautiful little creatures. But they spend the first part of their lives crawling in the dirt until they are fat and dirty and can’t move. Then a cocoon is formed around them. Whilst inside the cocoon, the butterfly is literally being transformed from the inside out. Every part of his inner being is rearranging itself and recreating itself into something beautiful. The brand new butterfly eventually emerges and has freedom to live beautifully!🦋🦋This is what happens when we become part of God’s family. He literally gives us a new Spirit and a new mind. When we stop, confess our sin, repent (turn) from our life sin, and get into the “cocoon” (shelter) of Jesus’ redeeming love, God transforms us from the inside out.He no longer sees us as the old caterpillar dirty with sin but sees us through His filter of love. Our old stinkin thinking ways no longer satisfy us and we find new life and freedom. Isn’t that amazing. 🦋I love how God speaks to us through nature. Some of us have been caterpillars for far too long and it’s time to shake it off and emerge as beautiful butterflies 🦋🌷you are so very loved.

So I made a whole batch of butterfly paintings for Mother’s Day. ☺

Retro swimmers

I’m really excited about my fat ladies on the beach canvas’! They have been selling well in Portobello, Edinburgh and I’m having fun making tonnes more.

These are also available in my Etsy shop and make great little gifts.

New collection: Edinburgh street scenes

I am in the midst of building a new collection of paintings. Mixing my love of my favourite City Edinburgh and naive / folk art.

Here are a few of my new paintings and I hope you enjoy the scenes I am building over the next year.

All originals are for sale from my website and cards/ prints will be available online or at my wee Grassmarket stall …

Favourite artist: Gary Bunt

My Christmas pressie to myself has finally arrived – a book of paintings and poems by Gary Bunt, UK naive artist.

I love Gary’s work. I love it because it’s just so simple but with some punch.

I bought this book ‘By the Grace of God’ because Bunt has some great and funny paintings and poems about Jesus and the Kingdom.

I recently discovered the world of ‘naive art’. I didn’t actually know it was a genre of art.

There’s a whole world of naive art out there – centuries old!

It’s redeemed me from striving and thinking I have to be some kind of ‘really good artist’ , making boring pairings that look lifelike to be successful.

‘Naive’ artists have no formal art training and paint in their own free style, any subject they choose -that’s me!

I feel a whole lot free’er to paint in my own style – which I always thought was a bit childlike – anyhow, now I don’t really care and I’ve found new joy in painting for fun.

Heroes of the Faith: Jonah and the Whale

‘Jonah and the Whale’🐟.acrylic on canvas 40×60 cm

Every month I am going to paint a children’s piece for my ‘Heroes of the Faith’ collection. A series of Bible characters for kids.

🐳

Here we have Jonah the prophet. God told Jonah to go preach at Nineveh because the people there were wicked. Jonah had other plans however.

He soon learned though that when God says “Go” you go.

Jonah was washed away in a terrible storm, but by the grace of God, was swallowed by a large whale and spent 3 nights in the whale’s belly until God answered his prayers. After 3 days he was spat out on the shores of Nineveh.
